During the Meiji period the emperor and the government decided to change up the economic system. The Government changed the agriculture: many farmers who worked on a piece of land got to own it. It affected many people such as farmers, land owners and government. The change occurred during the Meiji period. The government wanted to change the tenant farming system. Industry was changed: The government funded and own most of the industries. The government wanted to bring up modernization. These changes occurred during the Meiji period. They want to keep up with the west.
Trade was another change: Japan had new control over Asia’s trade. The change was primarily for budget reasons. Japan had to take in all new trade they never had before. The government was involved in the change. They got the Reformers. These changes occurred during the Meiji period, and throughout trade routes in Japan. The changes happened because Japan wanted to start trading new products.
Banking was also a change. Japan was losing their currency to Asia so; the government came up with a central bank to hold all the money. It also assisted trade in Japan. The government made the changes to keep their money. The changed occurred in 1873 when Japan was losing its money. Another change was Taxation. Taxes were collected directly by the government. They were based on 3% of the land value and were paid. The people involved are the government. Private enterprises were involved too.
Japan was in the stage of modernization and needed to modernize fast. They changed all these topics and a couple others. Japan and the emperor thought that changing these topics and others would bring up the modernization. We talked to a local farmer to ask some questions on how they feel. “I like that I get to own my own land but, having to pay with the new taxation I feel it’s not right.” Said the local. As a result of these changes many people need to change their routines.
The emperor said this would speed up the modernization to catch up to the west. People say after this modernizing is all done they would be caught up. Japan hops these changes are just enough.
